The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has traded QB Alex Smith to Washington in exchange for CB Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

"We were able to reach an agreement with the Redskins that we felt was in the best interest of our team moving forward," Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said. "I'd like to thank Alex for his contributions the last five seasons. He played an integral role in our team's success. I wish him the best of luck as he continues his career."

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Alex and what he was able to accomplish with us these past five seasons," Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said. "He put every ounce of energy into making our football team better and I appreciate his leadership and how he came to work with the right attitude every day. I wish Alex and his family well as he moves forward." Smith (6-4, 217)started 76 games with the Chiefs from 2013-17. In his five seasons with the club he completed 1,587 passes on 2,436 attempts for 17,608 yards with 102 touchdowns and 33 interceptions (94.8 rating). Smith joined the Chiefs via trade with the San Francisco 49ers in March of 2013. He earned three Pro Bowl bids with the Chiefs following the 2013, 2016 and 2017 seasons. Smith has compiled 31,888 passing yards, 183 touchdowns and 96 interceptions in his NFL career. The 13-year veteran is from La Mesa, California, and was drafted first overall out of Utah in the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
