Chiefs Red Coaters and Cheerleaders pack care kits for those in need

The Chiefs Community Caring Team, featuring Red Coaters and Chiefs Cheerleaders, volunteered at Heart to Heart International on Wednesday to help assemble hygiene kits for those who have recently experienced the unexpected loss of shelter, food or water due to disaster.

Red Coaters and Chiefs Cheerleaders volunteered at Heart to Heart International on Wednesday assembling hygiene kits for those in need.

Heart to Heart International is a global humanitarian organization that inspires, empowers and mobilizes individuals to serve those in need in the community and around the world.

"These kits are meant to help people who are in shelters, or just need help getting back to some state of normalcy after a disaster," Jen Mellard, Heart to Heart International Volunteer Coordinator, explained. "We work ahead of the need, so that we can respond as soon as something happens."

The care kits contained hand towels, wash clothes, a wide toothcomb, a bottle of shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, a soap dish, bandages and two one-gallon resalable bags.

"We are packing hygiene kits for those in poverty or those who have recently experienced disaster," Jillian, Chiefs Cheerleader, noted. "Most of these kits we are assembling will go to Korea and they fit the basic needs for personal hygiene. It's a great opportunity to be volunteering and working alongside the Red Coaters."

The Red Coaters continually volunteer in the community, lending a helping hand wherever is needed.

"It's great to know that we can help in some small way," Mitzy Graybeal, Red Coater for two years, said. "Heart to Heart International is a wonderful organization, providing supplies for people all over the world. We are so happy to help and our goal is volunteer throughout the Kansas City community as much as we can."
