ESPN Ranks Patrick Mahomes as the League's Top Quarterback

Mahomes topped the list for the third year in a row

The folks at ESPN published their annual quarterback rankings on Monday, and for the third year in a row (and the fifth time in the last six years), Patrick Mahomes topped the list.

Here's a portion of what Jeremy Fowler, who compiled the rankings, wrote about Mahomes:

"Mahomes still leads the NFL in virtually every passing category -- from passing yards to touchdowns and yards per attempt -- since becoming the starter in 2018. No quarterback was more efficient on third down than Mahomes last season. He led the NFL in third-down QBR (90.4) with a league-high 53.1% of his passing attempts resulting in first downs."

In the context of NFL history, some players have found immense statistical success while others have piled up impressive postseason resumes. Mahomes has done both. He leads the NFL in passing yards (32,068) and passing touchdowns (245) since 2018 while also compiling the second-most postseason wins (17) of any quarterback in NFL history.

Mahomes has led the Chiefs to at least the AFC Championship Game in each of his seven seasons as Kansas City's starting quarterback, and he's already one of only five quarterbacks in league history to win three Super Bowl championships.

Mahomes is the second member of the Chiefs to earn a No. 1 spot in ESPN's positional rankings so far, joining center Creed Humphrey.
