NFL Power Rankings: Chiefs Near the Top After Week 1

Here’s where the Chiefs landed in the latest power rankings from around the web

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the regular season in impressive fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars behind an electric offensive attack led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

It was simply a thrilling overall performance, landing the Chiefs in the win column to begin the year and near the top of the weekly power rankings from around the web.

The folks at NFL.com, for example, have Kansas City at No. 3 in their rankings behind only the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.

Here's a portion of what analyst Dan Hanzus had to say about the Chiefs:

"…Patrick Mahomes looks like the MVP, LeSean McCoy looks like the Shady of old rather than old Shady, and Sammy Watkins looks to, at long last, be on the precipice of his breakthrough season…"

Kansas City checked in at No. 2 in ESPN’s rankings while also securing the second spot in USA Today's listing, trailing only the Patriots in both.

It appears Nate Davis of USA Today liked what he saw out of Watkins and McCoy on Sunday.

"Appears they'll get nice boost from a pair of ex-Bills — RB Shady McCoy and WR Sammy Watkins. K.C. definitely looms as most significant threat to New England."
