Curtis spent the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys serving as the team's defensive pass game coordinator.

Prior to his time with the Cowboys, he had a three year stint with the Chicago Bears (2022-24). While with Chicago, his unit ranked sixth in the NFL with 47 interceptions and coached S Jaquan Brisker to 6.0 sacks in his first three seasons. His 6.0 sacks ranked sixth among all defensive backs in the league. During Brisker's rookie season in 2022, Curtis coached him to a Bears rookie record 4.0 sacks.

Curtis spent seven seasons (2015-21) with the Seattle Seahawks, working with the secondary in a variety of capacities. Curtis spent his first two seasons in Seattle as the assistant secondary coach before taking on the defensive backs in 2017. For his final four seasons (2018-21) in Seattle, Curtis served as the defensive pass game coordinator. While with Seattle, six defensive backs earned nine trips to the Pro Bowl including S Kam Chancellor (2015), CB Richard Sherman (2015-16), S Earl Thomas (2015, 2017), CB Shaquill Griffin (2019), then S Jamal Adams (2020) and S Quandre Diggs (2020-21). In 2021, Curtis coached Diggs to his second-career Pro Bowl selection after recording five interceptions and a then career-high 94 tackles. It marked Diggs' second-straight season with five picks. In 2020, Curtis' leadership helped Adams set the NFL record for most sacks by a defensive back in a season (9.5). In 2017, as Curtis was promoted to defensive backs coach, his unit ranked 12th in passes defensed and tied for first among the league with three interceptions returned for a touchdown. As Curtis assisted the secondary during his first season in Seattle (2015), the Seahawks secondary featured three Pro Bowlers in Chancellor, Sherman and Thomas and their efforts helped the Seattle defense rank second in yards allowed per game (291.8 yards).

Prior to his time in Seattle, Curtis spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints as the assistant secondary coach (2012-14). In 2013, he worked closely with S Kenny Vaccaro, who was a PFWA All-Rookie selection as he led the secondary with 77 tackles.

Curtis first entered the NFL ranks as a defensive quality control coach for the Giants from 2006-08. He went on to coach defensive backs/safeties for the St. Louis Rams from 2009-11 and helped them finish seventh in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (206.3 yards) in 2011.

Returning to his alma mater, Virginia Military Institute, Curtis began his coaching journey as he oversaw the linebacker unit from 2000-03 before spending two seasons (2004-05) at Georgia Southern with the defensive ends.

While with the Virginia Military Institute, Curtis expanded his knowledge, spending training camps with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers a part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

Prior to coaching, Curtis played linebacker for four seasons (1996-99) at the Virginia Military Institute and started in 31 consecutive games. Throughout his collegiate playing career, he tallied 354 career tackles before graduating in 1999.

A native of Beaverdam, Va., Curtis earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business from the Virginia Military Institute.

Curtis and his wife, Erica, have four children.
