Cox enters his first season in the NFL and his first season with the Chiefs in 2026. Cox previously served as the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellow for Kansas City (2022 and 2023) and for the Los Angeles Rams in 2024, while also working for Kent State.

Cox spent the 2025 season coaching safeties at Coastal Carolina. Cox's safeties group helped the Chanticleers defense rank fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in turnovers and 36^th nationally. They also ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in passes intercepted (T-41^st nationally), second in the Sun Belt in fourth down conversion defense (T-13^th nationally), and third in the Sun Belt in third down conversion defense. Cox also was responsible for recruiting in several areas including northern South Carolina, Charlotte, N.C., and Orlando, Fla.

Cox spent the 2024 season at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as the safeties coach/pass game coordinator. He helped improve the pass defense from 88^th in the country to 17^th in the country and the passing efficiency defense from 85^th in the country to 51^st in the country (fifth in the AAC). Cox coached S Adrian Maddox in a season where he ranked 12^th in the AAC in passes defensed and tied for fifth in the AAC in fumbles forced.

Cox spent three years (2021-23) at Kent State where he served as the cornerbacks/pass game coordinator (2023), secondary/pass game coordinator/defensive recruiting coordinator (2021-22), interim defensive coordinator and cornerbacks/defensive recruiting coordinator (2021). In 2023, Cox helped improve a pass defense that was ranked 116^th in the nation to 50^th in the nation and helped DB Capone Blue finish fifth in the MAC and 25^th in the nation in passes defensed. The Golden Flashes defense finished fourth in the MAC in red zone defense. As interim defensive coordinator in 2021, Cox held Kent State's rival, Akron, to zero points in his first game, recording the first Kent State shutout since 2009. He also helped Kent State win the MAC East Title and earn an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Game.

Prior to his time at Kent State, Cox served as the cornerbacks coach at the University of Montana (2018-20) and was also in charge of recruiting the southern California, northern California, central Texas, and central Oklahoma areas. In 2019, the Grizzlies reached the FCS Championship quarterfinals. Montana ranked second in the Big Sky in passes intercepted (T-12^th nationally) and second in turnovers forced (13^th nationally), which were both improvements from the season prior.

Before joining the staff at the University of Montana, Cox coached cornerbacks at Sacramento State (2017). Cox's unit was a part of a defense that ranked first in sacks in the Big Sky and nationally. The unit was also ranked first in the Big Sky Conference in defensive touchdowns (tied for third nationally), third down conversion defense (fourth nationally) and turnover margin (sixth nationally).

Cox started his coaching career at UNLV, his alma mater, where he spent five seasons (2012-16). Cox served in many roles including director of player personnel and recruiting (2016), defensive graduate assistant (2015), offensive graduate assistant (2014-15), special teams/defensive graduate assistant (2013-14) and student assistant (2012).

The Garland, Texas, native graduated from UNLV where he had a three-year playing career as a running back and linebacker. He was featured on the 2023 AFCA 35 Under 35 list and participated in the 2023 Fiesta Bowl Path to the Summit - a program for emerging leaders in coaching. Cox received his masters in public administration and his bachelor of arts in political science.
