Murray most recently served as Oklahoma's running backs coach, returning to his alma mater and holding the position from 2020-25. During his time at OU, he coached the 2023 running backs to help the team lead the Big 12 with 41.7 points (ranked fourth nationally) and 507.0 total yards per contest. In the final five games, sophomore RB Gavin Sawchuk rushed for 100+ yards in each game. In 2022, his group averaged 219.8 rushing yards per game which led the Big 12. The group featured RB Eric Gray who was second-team All-Big 12 and a fifth-round NFL Draft selection after rushing for 1,366 yards and 11 TDs that season.

In 2019, Murray entered the college coaching ranks at the University of Arizona and oversaw the running backs. Redshirt junior RB J.J. Taylor earned 2019 honorable mention All-Pac 12 honors after rushing for a team-high 721 yards and five TDs.

Murray spent one season as a college football analyst for FOX Sports, calling games in 2018 with Justin Kutcher and Petros Papadakis.

Murray spent four seasons (2011-2014) with the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted in the third round (71st overall pick) in 2011.  Murray then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles for one season in 2015 before finishing his career with the Tennessee Titans from 2016-17 before he retired. In 99 games and 86 starts, Murray recorded three 1,000+ rushing yard seasons including back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons (2013-14). In 2014, Murray recorded career highs with 1,845 rushing yards, 392 rushes and 13 touchdowns. His performance in 2014 earned him AP Offensive Player of the Year, PFW/PFWA All-NFL Team, AP All-Pro (first-team) and PFW/PFWA Offensive Player of the Year. Throughout his career, Murray recorded 7,174 rushing yards, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and totaling 49 rushing touchdowns. He added 2,165 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Murray was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his career (2013, 2014, 2016) and was selected to the PFW/PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2011.

Prior to his professional career, Murray attended the University of Oklahoma, starring with the Sooners for four seasons (2007-10). In his career with Oklahoma, they won three Big 12 Championships and two bowl games. Murray was a first-team All-Big 12 pick in 2010 after rushing for career highs of 1,214 yards and 15 TDs. He also caught 71 passes for 594 yards and five TDs. In 2008, Murray played a crucial role in helping get the Sooners to the BCS National Championship Game, which he had to miss due to injury. Murray rushed for 1,002 yards that season and 13 rushing touchdowns while adding 395 yards receiving and four touchdown receptions, earning him first-team All-Big 12 honors. Murray recorded several school records while at Oklahoma including all-purpose yards (6,718) and touchdowns scored (65) and is the school's all-time leader in kickoff return average (27.6 yards).

Off the field, Murray started the DeMarco Murray Foundation with the mission to provide families with seriously and chronically ill kids with daily encouragement and life-changing experiences.
