SALUTE TO SERVICE

Chiefs Recognize Petty Officer First Class Renee Pahmahmie as This Week's Tribute to the Troops Honoree Presented by Crown Royal

Pahmahmie has served as a member of the U.S. Navy since 2017

They devote their lives to protecting those that they've never met, selflessly stepping forward to defend all that we hold dear in this country.

These individuals don't join the service for recognition or fame, it's just simply what they feel called to do, forgoing personal ambition to become a part of something much larger than themselves.

They're the brave few who make up our Armed Forces, and some of our nation's very best are right here in Chiefs Kingdom.

The Chiefs have a rich history of supporting our men and women in uniform throughout the years, including through the "Tribute to the Troops" program at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which recognizes the real heroes in our community during every home game.

That initiative will take place once again this week as Petty Officer First Class Renee Pahmahmie will be recognized as the "Tribute to the Troops" honoree presented by Crown Royal during the Chiefs' matchup against the Denver Broncos.

A member of the Navy since 2017, Pahmahmie initially enlisted in order to honor a tradition of service within her family.

"I joined the US Navy to serve my nation, but my commitment is rooted in the heroes within my own family," Pahmahmie said. "Growing up, I was guided by the sacrifices of my father, a Vietnam veteran, and the strength of my grandfather, a United States Marine. Ultimately, I chose to wear the uniform to honor the legacy of my other grandfather, a Navajo Code Talker. Walking in his footsteps is the greatest way I can pay tribute to my heritage."

Now an extension of that legacy herself, Pahmahmie – as a Funeral Honors Coordinator – has led the organization of 2,045 funerals with zero missed services. In addition to coordinating the services themselves, her responsibilities have ranged from training new team members to processing travel reimbursements all while embracing the duty of handling one of life's most delicate events with immense care.

"Reflecting on my career, I can honestly say that serving has been one of the most rewarding, stressful, and meaningful things I have done in my life so far," Pahmahmie said. "It has tested me in ways I never expected, but it has also connected me to my family history more than anything else could."

Pahmahmie's decision to continue her family's legacy of service has meant a life dedicated to others, and as the Chiefs take on the Broncos on Thursday, the fans in attendance will have an opportunity to show their appreciation for all that she has done for our country.

"As a lifelong fan, this is a great honor," Pahmahmie said. "I have always admired the camaraderie among the players and coaches, and to be represented by such a principled organization is a tremendous compliment."
