Red Friday was a little unique this year as the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the season in Sao Paulo, Brazil that night, but despite being nearly 6,000 miles away from home, the organization still found a way to continue one of its richest traditions.
In fact, just as they frequently do in Kansas City, several members of the Chiefs' leadership team, including Chairman & CEO Clark Hunt and President Mark Donovan, spent Friday morning visiting families at the Ronald McDonald House in Sao Paulo.
The visit included a tour of the facility and an opportunity to interact with the dozens of children and families currently staying there. In total, the seven Ronald McDonald House facilities across Brazil provided over 100,000 overnight stays and more than 563,000 meals in 2024 alone.
"What a privilege it has been for our family and the organization to visit this Ronald McDonald House and to see the work that they're doing here in Sao Paulo," Hunt said. "We got to interact with some of the kids who were staying here and their families. The Ronald McDonald House here in Brazil is very strong. They have seven facilities across the country, and they're providing great services just like they do in Kansas City."
The Chiefs once again celebrated Red Friday with a limited-edition commemorative flag that was available for purchase both online and at McDonald's locations throughout the metro on Friday morning. It marked the 12th consecutive year that the Chiefs celebrated Red Friday with a commemorative flag, and as always, all proceeds benefited Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.
Red Friday has raised more than $6.5 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City in that time, and while the game in Brazil meant that several members of the organization couldn't be in Kansas City on Friday, the Chiefs' commitment to helping those in need remained strong as ever.
"It's so important for us to give back, not only in Kansas City, but here on our trip to Brazil," Hunt said. "It was great to be able to visit the Ronald McDonald House this morning."
