Chiefs Re-sign Long Snapper James Winchester

Winchester re-signed with the Chiefs on Monday

One of the Kansas City Chiefs' longest-tenured players is back for a 12th season in 2026.

Long snapper James Winchester, who hasn't missed a game since initially joining the Chiefs in 2015, re-signed with Kansas City on Wednesday. The veteran long snapper has appeared in 181 games during his time with the Chiefs, not to mention a franchise-record 25 postseason games (where he's tied with tight end Travis Kelce).

Winchester has been responsible for firing the ball backward on some of the biggest plays in Chiefs' history, from Harrison Butker's game-winning field goal in the 2022-23 AFC Championship Game to his game-tying field goal in the closing seconds of Super Bowl LVIII.

He doesn't garner near the recognition he deserves for his steady efforts, but now back in Kansas City for a 12th campaign, Winchester will have an opportunity to be right in the middle of some more memorable moments in 2026.
