The Kansas City Chiefs added to their quarterback room on Wednesday by acquiring veteran Justin Fields from the New York Jets.
Here are five things to know about the newest member of the quarterback room.
1. Fields started nine games last season for the New York Jets.
The 27-year-old Fields started nine games for the Jets last year, completing 128-of-204 passes for 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns.
Notably, Fields rushed for at least 45 yards in four of his nine starts, tallying four touchdowns on the ground.
2. He entered the NFL as the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
One of the top prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears made Fields the No. 11 overall selection (and the fourth quarterback taken that year).
Fields went on to appear in 40 games for Chicago (with 38 starts), completing 578-of-958 attempts for 6,674 yards and 40 touchdowns.
3. Prior to joining the Jets, Fields spent the 2024 season in Pittsburgh.
Fields was traded to Pittsburgh ahead of the 2024 campaign and began the season as the Steelers' starting quarterback, leading Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record in his six starts. Fields' two losses in that stretch, meanwhile, took place by a combined six points.
He posted a quarterback rating of 93.9 in those six games, but despite his solid performance, Fields transitioned to a backup role once incumbent starter Russell Wilson returned from injury.
4. He's an electric runner who topped 1,000 yards on the ground in 2022.
Fields is among the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL when it comes to running the football. In fact, Fields is one of just three quarterbacks in league history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season, joining Lamar Jackson (2019, 2020) and Micheal Vick (2006).
Since entering the league in 2021, Fields' 1,821 rushing yards trail only Lamar Jackson (2,509) and Jalen Hurts (1,831) among quarterbacks. He'll now have an opportunity to show off that ability as a member of the Chiefs' offense.
5. Fields led Ohio State to the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020.
A coveted recruit out of high school, Fields began his collegiate career at Georgia before transferring to Ohio State ahead of the 2019 campaign, where he went on to throw 63 touchdowns (to just 9 interceptions) while rushing for another 15 scores during his two seasons there.
Fields won a slew of awards during his time in Columbus, including Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year (twice) and All-America honors, en route to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game during his final year on campus.
Fields' performance for the Buckeyes led to his early selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, and now all these years later, Fields is headed to Kansas City.
