The Kansas City Chiefs made another addition to their secondary on Friday, signing veteran cornerback Kader Kohou.

Here are five things to know about the Chiefs' newest defensive back.

1. Kohou started 38 games for the Miami Dolphins over the last four seasons.

The 28-year-old Kohou appeared in 47 games (with 38 starts) for the Dolphins over the last four years, missing the entirety of the 2025 campaign due to a knee injury suffered during training camp.

Prior to the injury, however, Kohou had started at least nine games in each of his first three seasons with the Dolphins, logging 13 starts in 2022, 16 starts in 2023 and nine starts in 2024.

2. He recorded double-digit passes defensed in back-to-back seasons from 2022-23.

Kohou recorded exactly 10 passes defensed in both 2022 and 2023, becoming one of just 20 players across the league to do so during that timeframe.

Kohou then followed that collective performance with another strong season in 2024, tallying eight pass-breakups while ranking sixth in the NFL in yards allowed-per-coverage snap.

Overall, Kohou recorded 28 passes defensed during his first three years in Miami, establishing himself as one of just 12 players to amass eight or more pass-breakups in each season from 2022 through 2024.

3. He was primarily a slot cornerback during his time in Miami.

The 5-foot-10, 197-pound Kohou has mainly played over the slot during his career, doing so on 453 of his 708 defensive snaps in 2024. He covered the slot on 601 of his 937 defensive snaps the season prior, and on 482 of his 895 defensive snaps in 2022.

Considering how Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo likes to utilize his slot corners as blitzers, it's also worth mentioning that Kohou has experience in that regard. He recorded at least 15 pass-rush snaps in each of his three healthy seasons, logging 11 total pressures.

4. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

Kohou's ascension to becoming a consistent NFL starter is a great story of overcoming adversity.

A four-year contributor at Texas A&M University–Commerce from 2017 through 2021, Kohou helped lead the Lions to the Division II National Championship during his redshirt freshman campaign. He then went undrafted in 2022, but after signing with Miami and turning in a strong performance during the offseason training program, Kohou made the Dolphins' roster following training camp.

He didn't look back over the following three seasons, either, establishing himself as a frequent starter in Miami's secondary.

5. Kohou was born in Côte d'Ivoire before moving to Texas.

Kohou was born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) before later moving to Euless, Texas and eventually attending Trinity High School, where he starred in track and field in addition to football.

His abilities earned the attention of Texas A&M –Commerce, and all these years later, Kohou is headed to Kansas City to join the Chiefs.
