The Kansas City Chiefs took the field for the 15th practice of training camp on Monday morning as they continued their preparation for the upcoming season.
Here's a quick rundown of what took place during Monday's practice, and for reference, all previous practice reports are available below:
1. The Chiefs were back in pads on Monday morning.
Kansas City took the field in pads on Monday following Saturday's preseason opener and a morning off on Sunday. In many ways, this is considered one of the toughest stretches of camp because – in contrast to the repetitive "dog days" of the last few weeks – the players are challenged with another set of demanding practices following the unique process that surrounds a game day.
In other words, if training camp is a marathon, this week represents a daunting hill that proceeds the finish line.
The two-hour and 25-minute practice, which marked the ninth padded session of camp, included multiple 11-on-11 periods, a 9-on-7 segment and a 7-on-7 portion among other drills.
The Chiefs will take the field for two additional padded practices before wrapping up training camp in St. Joseph with a lighter session on Thursday morning.
2. Safety Alohi Gilman hauled in an interception during 11-on-11 drills.
Gilman tallied an interception at the goal line during an 11-on-11 period early in Monday's practice. The veteran safety was playing over the middle of the field when the pass – which may have been tipped at the line – fell short of its target and feel into Gilman's waiting grasp.
Elsewhere on defense, cornerback Nohl Williams logged a pass breakup on a contested throw in the flat earlier in the aforementioned 11-on-11 period. Defensive tackle Peter Woods also made a play during the segment with a batted pass at the line of scrimmage.
3. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes made some terrific throws on Monday.
Mahomes made several impressive plays throughout Monday's practice, which included a great throw that the three-time Super Bowl MVP wrapped around a looming defender and guided into the arms of wide receiver Tyquan Thornton during an 11-on-11 period.
Mahomes then showed off his trademark improvisation skills once again a little bit later when he completed an off-balance throw to wide receiver Rashee Rice during a 7-on-7 segment. It was all part of a fun day for Mahomes, who – despite the plays that proceeded it – turned in perhaps his smoothest throw of the morning when he found wide receiver Xavier Worthy in-stride up the seam for a big gain during 7-on-7 drills.
Fellow quarterback Garrett Nussmeier also showed off his arm throughout Monday's practice, notably when he found wide receiver Jacob DeJesus for a deep touchdown during an 11-on-11 portion.
4. Cornerback Mansoor Delane fully participated in practice for the first time in St. Joseph.
Delane, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, took a major step forward on Monday in his recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained earlier this summer.
The rookie cornerback, who was a limited participant through the first three weeks of camp while sporting a "no contact" jersey, participated fully in Monday's padded practice, which included his first inclusion in padded 11-on-11 drills.
"He did everything," said Head Coach Andy Reid. "He was in all the drills and looked good. That's good work for him as he goes through [his rehab]."
Delane had participated in each of the Chiefs' previous 14 training camp practices in a limited capacity, which included virtually everything but padded 11-on-11 drills. Those limitations appear to be over, however, and now it's just a matter of monitoring the former LSU star as he ramps up to full-fledged football activities.
"It looks like he's healing up pretty good – enough where he can get out here and do some things," Reid said. "We'll just monitor it and see how he does with the extended play. He hasn't taken that many reps [in previous practices], so we'll just see how he does."
5. Here's a look at Monday's injury report.
Safety Chamarri Conner (knee), offensive guard Trey Smith (hip), linebacker Drue Tranquill (back spasms), wide receiver Jimmy Holiday (groin), cornerback Kader Kohou (ankle), offensive tackle Chu Godrick (ankle) and wide receiver Jeff Weimer didn't practice for the Chiefs on Monday.
Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (knee) also didn't participate in Monday's practice, although his absence was part of a planned management schedule.
In terms of new injuries, offensive tackle Esa Pole (dehydration), linebacker Jack Cochrane (knee), offensive tackle Matt Waletzko (knee) and safety DeShon Singleton (hamstring) either left Monday's practice early or – in the case of Cochrane – managed to finish the session despite an injury.
Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (knee) also remains on the "Physically Unable to Perform" list (PUP) and did not participate in Monday's practice.
Next up, the Chiefs will take the field on Tuesday morning for the 16th practice of training camp. For a look at the training camp schedule or for more information on how to reserve tickets, click here.
