The Kansas City Chiefs took the field for the 14th practice of training camp on Thursday morning as they continued their preparation for the upcoming season.
Here's a quick rundown of what took place during Thursday's practice, and for reference, all previous practice reports are available below:
1. Thursday's practice was a lighter, "10-10-10" session.
The Chiefs took the field for a lighter, "10-10-10" practice on Thursday following a stretch of eight padded practices in just 10 days.
A "10-10-10" session, which is not padded, consists of what is essentially a circuit of 10 offensive plays, 10 defensive plays and 10 special teams plays. Each segment is of the 11-on-11 variety, but unlike a standard period, the idea is to demonstrate what success looks like for the three respective phases. During the "offensive period," for example," the first-team offense competes against a scout team defense in an effort to skew the results toward the offense.
Essentially, if the concept plays out properly, each segment of the team will experience what success looks like within the given scheme.
The Chiefs completed nearly three full circuits of the "10-10-10" format on Thursday with three offensive periods, three defensive periods and two special teams segments.
2. Wide receiver Rashee Rice had a busy day with several catches during the "offensive" portions of practice.
Rice was targeted early and often during Thursday's practice, particularly on intermediate throws over the middle of the field. The timing of his routes was in lockstep with quarterback Patrick Mahomes throughout the session.
In addition to Rice, Mahomes found tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, tight end Noah Gray and wide receiver Xavier Worthy for completions across the various "offensive" periods of practice.
As for how the offense will approach Saturday's preseason opener, Head Coach Andy Reid confirmed that Mahomes will not play against Los Angeles. Instead, quarterback Justin Fields will start for Kansas City.
3. Cornerback Nohl Williams picked off a pass during a "defensive" portion.
Williams hauled in an interception on the first play of the initial "defensive" segment of Thursday's practice when he darted in front of a pass near the sideline.
Elsewhere on defense, safety Alohi Gilman tallied an interception during a later "defensive" period before safety Jadon Canady and cornerback Mansoor Delane each notched a pass-breakup as practice continued.
4. Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah took the field for his first practice with Kansas City.
Ogbah is officially back for his second stint with the Chiefs after appearing in 10 games with Kansas City during the 2019 campaign. The veteran pass-rusher went on to spend five years with the Dolphins from 2020 through 2024 before appearing in 13 games for Jacksonville in 2025.
The 32-year-old pass-rusher recorded five sacks as recently as 2024, and now back with the Chiefs – where he's currently wearing No. 50 – he'll have an opportunity to bring some veteran experience to an otherwise young group.
In a corresponding move, the Chiefs waived defensive back Bryce Phillips.
5. Here's a look at Thursday's injury report.
Safety Chamarri Conner (knee), offensive guard Trey Smith (hip), linebacker Drue Tranquill (back spasms) and wide receiver Jimmy Holiday (groin) didn't practice for the Chiefs on Thursday. Cornerback Kader Kohou was also held out due to a sore ankle, per Coach Reid.
Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (knee) didn't participate in Thursday's practice either, although his absence was part of a planned management schedule.
Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (knee) also remains on the "Physically Unable to Perform" list (PUP) and did not participate in Thursday's practice.
In some good news, cornerback Mansoor Delane (shoulder) took the field without a gold, "no contact" jersey for the first time at training camp.
Next up, the Chiefs will take a break from the daily practice schedule on Friday before kicking off the preseason at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday. Kansas City will then take the field on Monday for the 15th practice of training camp.
