The Kansas City Chiefs took the field for the second practice of training camp on Thursday morning as they continued their preparation for the upcoming season.
Here's a quick rundown of what took place during Thursday's practice, and for reference, Wednesday's practice report can be found by clicking here.
1. It was a much cooler, although rainy, morning in St. Joseph.
Thursday's practice felt like it took place in a different universe following numerous days – particularly during the rookie "pre-camp period" – with heat indexes in the triple digits.
It was just 73 degrees when practice ended on Thursday, although a light rain quickly grew into a steady downpour during the final 15 minutes of the session. Still, several players stuck around following practice to sign autographs for the fans who endured the rainy conditions.
2. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who once again took part in 11-on-11 drills, made a handful of great throws.
Mahomes once again took part in 11-on-11 drills during Thursday's practice and made numerous notable throws, including a completion deep down the middle of the field to wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Mahomes also found wide receiver Tyquan Thornton for a completion during the period, but perhaps his best play was when he maneuvered through the pocket and fired a missile to wide receiver Jalen Royals over the middle of the field. The play demonstrated some of Mahomes' trademark mobility as he continues to work his way back from last year's knee injury.
Quarterback Justin Fields also made some impressive throws on Thursday, including a perfectly placed pass outside the numbers to wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, who hauled in the over-the-shoulder catch during a 7-on-7 portion of practice. Fields later added another excellent throw when he found tight end Mason Pline for a sizeable gain deep down the sideline.
3. Cornerback Nohl Williams hauled in a red zone interception.
Williams made one of the defensive plays of the morning when he jumped a route and picked off a pass during red zone 7-on-7 drills.
One of the standouts of the offseason training program, Williams has an opportunity to earn a starting role this season with a strong camp, and Thursday's practice certainly marked a positive step in that direction.
Safety Chamarri Conner also logged an interception during the 7-on-7 period.
4. Tailback Ken Walker showed off what the Chiefs' screen game may look like in 2026.
The second-loudest crowd roar of the morning, trailing only Mahomes' aforementioned deep throw to Worthy, took place when Mahomes flipped a quick screen to tailback Ken Walker, who proceeded to sift his way through traffic for a long touchdown run.
Beautifully executed and well-blocked, the play demonstrated what's possible with Walker – the reigning Super Bowl MVP – now in the Chiefs' backfield. With that in mind, center Creed Humphrey was asked about the development of the Chiefs' screen game following practice:
"I think it's about just focusing on the details in practice, locking down what we're trying to accomplish with each screen, and getting the reps with the new 'backs," Humphrey said. "[It's all about] that cohesion."
5. Here's a look at Thursday's injury report.
Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (knee) remains on the "Physically Unable to Perform" list (PUP), and did not participate in Thursday's practice.
Other than Norman-Lott, however, every member of the active roster practiced in some capacity on Thursday.
Next up, the Chiefs will take the field on Friday for the third practice of training camp. For a look at the training camp schedule or for more information on how to reserve tickets, click here.
