The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans in thrilling fashion on Wednesday night behind LeBron James' 33-point performance, and it turns out that Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes was taking in the game from some of the best seats in the house.
He certainly picked a good night to stop by, as the game came down to the wire before James nailed a step-back three-pointer that effectively sealed the game with under a minute to play.
Understandably, Mahomes was pretty excited.
And it wasn't long before the Chiefs' young quarterback gave James, a 4-time NBA MVP, a shout out for his stellar performance.
Of course, Mahomes is pretty familiar with big-time plays himself. The 23-year-old quarterback put together one of the best seasons in the history of the position this past season for Kansas City, earning the NFL MVP award earlier this month.
With that in mind, James promptly responded to Mahomes with a message of mutual respect.
Following the game, reporters asked James if he knew where Mahomes was sitting on that final shot. He didn't know of the quarterback's exact location, but the rest of his response sums up Mahomes' position on the national stage nowadays.
"I knew he was courtside – as he should be courtside, he's the MVP," James said.
Mahomes has gained plenty of fans over the past year, and it looks like James is one of them.
